The Model 928 provides high peak current for operating quasi-cw (QCW) laser diode arrays. Up to 150A peak current is available. Diode protection circuits, current limit, and transient controlfeatures provide for reliable operation of laser diode arrays. Variable compliance allows differentversions ofthe 928 to drive 1 to 50 QCW laser array “bars” in electricalseries.
Optimized forlow impedance loads, the 928 providestransientfree, high-current pulsesfroma low inductance output port. Pulse rise time, overshoot, droop and decay time are optimized for the long pulse widths used for QCW laser diodes.Pulsewidth capability extendsfrom 50 to 1000 µs and repetition rate is variable from 25 to 1000 Hz. The Replica feature allows one 928driver to controlthe pulse timing of other 928unitstriggered by the master unit, and allowsthe use of complex digitalwaveforms.
Adjustable current limit protects the laser diode fromaccidental overdrive. Other features include: individual controlsfor each electronic function;backlitmeter; current reset; and fault indicatorsfor current limit, overload, open-circuit, short-circuit, and remote interlock fault.
The Model 928 meets all requirements of 21 CFR1040.10 (CDRH) laser safety regulations, including a key-switch, 10-second delay, flashing emission indicator at turn-on, and manual reset after a remote interlock fault.
