Thorlabs IO-3-532-LP Free-Space Isolator is an adjustable narrowband isolator. This isolator is set for 45° of rotation at 532 nm, the design wavelength; however, it offers the ability to adjust the input and output polarizer alignment. This adjustment allows the center wavelength to be set at any wavelength within the specified tuning range. This isolator has a Lower Power (LP) Glan-type crystal polarizer which is larger than other polarizers but offers very high transmission.
Optical isolators are magneto-optic devices that only transmit light in one direction. They are able to isolate a source, such as a laser, from back reflections. Back reflections typically create instabilities in a system, which can lead to a number of issues. Mode hop, amplitude modulation, and frequency shifts are all possible side effects of these instabilities. Additionally, power spikes created by back reflections can permanently damage equipment such as lasers and optics.
Thorlabs offers a wide selection of in-stock free-space optical isolators. These isolators typically have higher transmittance and isolation than all other isolators on the market. Furthermore, because of certain proprietary features (covered by 25 years of experience and 5 US patents), our isolators are smaller and have higher performance than any other units of equivalent aperture available.
