HB-C is a new design of bow-tie HiBi fiber with the stress-applying-part (SAP) geometry optimized for the fabrication of fused taper couplers.
Fibercore Limited have moved the bow-tie SAPs further away from the core and changed their composition to reduce their index contrast with the cladding. As a result the evanescent field moves smoothly across the SAP ensuring low loss and stable coupling.
The stress leverage of the bow-tie design is the best of any HiBi geometry and, combined with the enhanced composition of the HB-C bow-tie, enables birefringence to be maintained for excellent PER in devices even though the bows are further away from the core.
