SM-SC - Pure Silica Core Singlemode Fibers

Fibercore Limited has developed a new pure Silica Core SM-SC Fiber Range for use in the UV and at the shorter visible wavelengths without the intrinsic photodarkening problems associated with more conventional germania-doped singlemode fibers.The SM-SC fibers have un-doped, pure-silica cores, surrounded by a depressed fluorine-doped cladding and contain no germania. This means that the electronic defects and consequent color-centers associated with the Ge-O bond (the prime cause of photodarkening at short wavelengths) are avoided resulting in increased power handling capacity.
SM300-SC is singlemoded right down to 320 nm with attenuation of less than 70 dB/km at 350 nm, whilst the SM400-SC is singlemoded up to 532 nm with attenuation of less than 70 dB/km at 430 nm.
