  Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBG) have quickly established themselves as one of the key enabling technologies behind the 'DWDM Revolution.' EDFA gain-equalising filters, WDMs and add-drop multiplexers, created as periodic variations in the refractive index of the core of the fiber itself, have all played their part in delivering almost unlimited bandwidth - and in accelerating the transition of the entire telecommunications industry from a digital electronic to a digital photonic world. Fibercore's PS Series of fibers has a high-germania and boron co-doped core composition that enables high-reflectivity gratings to be written without the need to hydrogen-load. The removal of the need to saturate the fiber with hydrogen greatly streamlines and simplifies the grating fabrication process. Fibers may be used 'straight from the shelf' and deliver a strong and consistent degree of photosensitivity indefinitely, enhancing production-line safety and saving both time and money. The Fibercore PS-series are matched to those of standard telecommunications or pigtailing fibers to enable splicing with minimal excess loss. Fibercore Ltd also offers a series of high-germania SM1500 singlemode fibers for distributed sensors and splice-free sensor elements. The cores of these fibers contain more than 5X the germania content of standard telecommunications fibers, enabling gratings to be written with or without hydrogen loading, whilst maintaining low attenuation around 1550 nm.
